Set Up Facebook & Instagram with Shopify (2026) – Full Integration Guide

Ready to connect your Shopify store to Facebook and Instagram in 2026? Syncing your products, running ads, and selling through social platforms lets you reach broader audiences and manage your marketing from one place. This guide walks you through every step.

Video walkthrough — Set Up Facebook & Instagram with Shopify (2026)

Before You Start

Prerequisites
  • A Shopify store with at least a few products
  • A Facebook Business Manager account
  • A published Facebook Page connected to your Business Manager
  • An Instagram Business Account linked to your Facebook Page
  • A Facebook Ad Account with admin access

Note: Your Shopify store must not be password-protected, and your Facebook Page must be published before you begin.

The Setup Steps

1

Install the Facebook & Instagram App

From your Shopify admin, go to Apps & sales channels and search for Facebook & Instagram by Meta. Click Add sales channel and follow the prompts to install.

2

Connect Your Facebook Account

Inside the app, click Connect account and log in to Facebook. Grant the requested permissions, then select your:

  • Business Manager
  • Facebook Page
  • Ad Account

Make sure you have admin access to each of these — the setup will fail if you don't.

3

Set Up Facebook Shop

Shopify automatically syncs your product catalog to Facebook during this step. If you don't already have a Commerce Account, the app will guide you through creating one. Your catalog update frequency depends on how often you change prices or inventory.

4

Enable Instagram Shopping

Connect your Instagram Business Account through the same app. Once your account is reviewed and approved by Meta (usually 1–3 days), you'll be able to tag products directly in Instagram posts and stories.

5

Manage Product Availability

Control which products appear on Facebook and Instagram by going to each product in Shopify admin and updating its Sales channel availability. You can also hide specific items from your Facebook Shop without removing them from your Shopify store.

Common Issues & Fixes

Permission errors during setup
Verify you have admin access to Business Manager, the Facebook Page, and the Ad Account. Partial access is the most common cause of failed connections.
Products not syncing to Facebook
Products with missing required fields (price, description, image) are often rejected from the catalog. Check your Shopify product listings for completeness.
Instagram Shopping eligibility issues
Instagram Shopping requires an established account presence. New accounts may need to wait or grow their following before becoming eligible.
Ad account not appearing in the app
Make sure the Ad Account is assigned to your Business Manager and that you have admin-level access — not just standard user access.

What's Next After Setup

Once your catalog is synced and your accounts are connected, you're ready to run ads. The most effective Shopify brands on Meta run Advantage+ Shopping Campaigns for retargeting while using manually structured campaigns for prospecting — keeping the two audiences separate so they don't cannibalize each other.

Creative is the other major lever. Static images, short-form video, and carousel ads each serve different stages of the funnel. Testing multiple formats simultaneously — rather than running one at a time — compresses the feedback loop significantly.

Managing Facebook and Instagram ads alongside your Shopify store is time-consuming. Agency AI automates your entire marketing workflow — campaign structure, creative generation, bidding, and optimization — across Meta and Google simultaneously.
